BIGFIX
Enterprise Suite
The BigFix Enterprise Suite platform impressed our judges
with its knack for enabling real-time visibility into and manage-
ment of desktop, mobile and server computers within an orga-
nization via a single infrastructure and single-agent architecture
under a single console. It provides automation and optimization
of IT operations, IT
security, and com-
pliance and audit.

BigFix also
enables real-time control of IT
resource compliance reporting, system configuration,
desktop system
power manage-
ment, anti-spyware and anti-virus functionality, endpoint client management, inventory, and software license management. NAC (network
access control) and quarantine, asset discovery and inventory, security
policy enforcement, patch management, vulnerability management, and
endpoint management over public network connections round out the
feature set that BigFix has assembled.
The BigFix platform works by deploying the BigFix Agent to all endpoint
computers on a network. The Agent continuously reports real-time system
information to give administrators deep and detailed visibility into hardware
and software properties and configurations on each computer.
The Agent also monitors any software configuration changes, patches,
vulnerabilities or other information that pertains to the computer. When an
administrator requests a change, or when the Agent detects that the computer has fallen out of compliance with policies, the Agent takes the appropriate
action to remediate the configuration to execute the desired change.

ThinkPad X60 Tablet
impresses judges
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF THE h WEEK EXCELLENCE
Awards program, we decided to name one product the overall winner.
We knew that we couldn’t say any one product was “the
best”—and with more than 800 products categorized almost
20 ways, we were right. (We might as well have been compar-
ing apples to, well, elephants.)
But we wanted to give credit to the
product and its vendor that we felt best
demonstrated attention to present and
future customer needs through the
applications of innovative technology.
That product is Lenovo Group’s
ThinkPad X60 Tablet, which has a long
list of compelling features including
Intel’s low-voltage Core Solo/Core Duo
processors, support for 802.11n and
WWANs (wireless WANs), an anti-glare/
anti-reflective screen that’s suitable for
indoor and outdoor use, an encryption
chip, and physical hardening.
Helping our Labs analysts and editors make this selection
were members of our Corporate Partner Advisory Board—IT
professionals who lend their insight to e WEEK staff. As one of
the Corporate Partners said, “Lenovo did not create the [tab-let] category or feature set, but they did perfect it. Many have
tried to get it right, and Lenovo did.”
